Analysis

Classification of Dropout Factors.

These are some of the variables the dropout Analytic tool employs

1

Intrinsic Factors

factors related to individual disposition, behaviour or personal choices of learners, which leads to dropping out:

e.g.Student individual-related: qualities students possess independent of demographics such

as drug abuse, trouble with the law, and pregnancy

2

Push out Factors

barriers that exist at home or in the community that has resulted in a learner dropping out of school

e.g. Parent/Guardian’s loss of employment, family conditions changes e.t.c

3

Extrinsic Factors

are school-related factors that are experienced by learners as exclusion from school. These included both

Unintentional and deliberate endeavours by educators or school management to limit the number

of learners who write grade 12 examinations to the ones who are most likely to pass;Grade repetition is a major predictor of dropout

4

Other Factors

Causes of nature like climate change, outbreaks and many other unplanned and unforeseen circumstances

e.g. COVID 19 and the war in Ukraine
